Can I still use the plant/aquatic light from the aquarium I am turning into a terrarium?

Will it be to much light for the plants and give off to much heat? I will have it set up on a timer with my other plants (violets 14 hours a day). The tank is a 20 gallon tall tank and is 12x24x16 (WxLxH) I will use the original lid to let heat excape for it has a cut out where the pump was or i could have piece of plexi gl put over the top.
